Now Jaguar has introduced a raft of powertrain upgrades intended to capitalize on the XJ’s lightweight aluminium structure to deliver more efficiency. Out goes the five-liter V-8 and in comes a supercharged three-liter V-6 with 335 bhp and 332 lbs.-ft of torque, the highest specific output of any Jaguar engine, this engine will also power the forthcoming F-Type sports car, available from 2013. The Sportbrake will also be available equipped with a 3.0-liter turbocharged V-6 engine in 237 bhp diesel and 271 bhp diesel S derivatives. Each emits 163 g/km of CO2 and returns 46 mpg (US 38.3) on the combined cycle. Despite its focus on versatility, in diesel S form, the XF Sportbrake accelerates to 60mph from rest in just 6.7 and 6.1 seconds, respectively. The XF saloon and Sportbrake will both adopt the eight-speed automatic gearbox and Stop/Start as standard across the engine range – improving emissions on the V-6 diesel saloon by 6%.. ^^
